The pFriem Experience: Let's Celebrate 6 Years

The pFriem Experience: Let's Celebrate 6 Years

A few months ago I had the opportunity to spend an evening with the pFriem staff as well as other local beer bloggers at their brewpub in Hood River, Oregon. If you are not familiar with pFriem Family Brewers, you should be. They have brewed world class beer since their inception in 2012. pFriem was founded by Josh Pfriem, Ken Whiteman and Rudy Kellner after meeting each other at a children's birthday party in 2011. They found that they all shared a love for beer, the Columbia Gorge, family and each had a unique set of skills.

Josh Pfriem has brewed at Utah Brewers Cooperative, Chuckanut Brewery and Full Sail in Hood River, OR. His beers are both Northwest and Belgian inspired. pFriem's flagship beers include their Pilsner and IPA. However, they don't stop with just making a few styles of beer. This year the expect to brew 100 different beers and bottle around half of them. That is something that most breweries could not even consider doing. pFriem's Brewhouse allows them the flexibility to brew beyond Belgian or Northwest style beers. On my recent visit I had the privilege of trying the Nectarine Golden Ale (my favorite of what I tried) Blanc Peche, Hazy Ipa and a variety of other beers.

In 2017 pFriem produced 15,000 barrels and are projecting 19,000 this year.

pFriem's barrel program has significantly grown over the years with the help of a plethora of barrels and two foudres.

Over the past six years pFriem has become recognized not only as a brewery making world class beer but a must stop when passing through the Columbia River Gorge. Their location across from the Hood River Waterfront Park, restaurant with solid food, experience and is kid friendly has made it the premier brewpub spot in Hood River. The industry respects pFriem too, as pFriem Family Brewers has been recognized by the Oregon Beer Awards for the past four years as the Best Brewpub Experience in Oregon.

A few other awards and kudos include:

2016 - The 101 Best Beers in America by Men's Journal for their pFriem Pilsner
2017 - Brewery of The Year by The Beer Connoisseur Magazine
2018 - World Beer Cup Gold For Belgian Style Fruit Beer with their Nectarine Golden Ale

Tomorrow (Saturday August 4th, 2018) marks the 6th Anniversary of pFriem and of course they are throwing a party. The party will be held directly across from pFriem at Hood River Waterfront Park and is open to all ages. The event will feature Pfriem beers, ciders from Rack & Cloth, food vendors and live music. The celebration at the park is from 4 pm - 9 pm, while pFriem will be open their regular hours of 11 am to 10 pm.

For additional coverage about this event check out Brewpublic.

Earn your beer by hiking in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge in the morning and then attend pFriem's anniversary. You might even find me doing the same thing.
